I love this sort of stuff, I must say. I'm a big fan of doing things to 'shake it up' a bit.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see our churches do the whole 'bacon roll' thing (and not just because I really like bacon) and anything else we can think of to get people talking about and looking at the church differently.
There is a church in Maryborough that always has a free BBQ before its service. They only have an evening service, and so the BBQ is at 5pm and church starts at 6pm. There are a few problems that doing the BBQ every week has created but for the most part its has worked out great.
Let's see more of it!
All of these things are attempts to 'get people in' whereas we are consistently - recently at least - being asked how to get our people out (out to the pub is a different issue, and one we have already covered).
ReplyDeleteI'm not against the bbq thing, as long as we don't think our job is done by getting people in. There is a big wide world out there and some of our creativity needs to go to how to reach them where they are (taking Christ - not church - to them). I don't think the beer first activity necessarily equates with new thought about the claims of Scripture. In Aus especially - that comes through relationship building, sometimes over a long period of time.
